HOME / SWITCHBOARD UPGRADES

SWITCHBOARD UPGRADES
Older boards trip more, can’t handle modern appliances, and put your home at risk. Time for a new one.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
The variables are how many circuits you have, whether your meter box needs work, and what safety features, like RCDs and surge protection, you want added.
We’ll give you a fixed quote after we’ve seen your existing setup. No surprises on what we’ve quoted once we start.

SIGNS YOUR SWITCHBOARD NEEDS UPGRADING
It trips often, especially when you use multiple appliances
It uses old ceramic fuses or rewireable fuses
It buzzes, hums, oozes green stuff, or smells warm
It hasn’t been touched in 20+ years
You’re adding load, like a new oven, heat pump, EV charger, or solar
Your insurer or buyer’s inspection has flagged it

frequently asked questions
How long does a switchboard upgrade take?
Most residential upgrades are 4-6 hours of work. Power off for most of that time. We do them in one day.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade?
If your board has ceramic fuses or rewireable fuses, yes. If your board is over 20 years old and you’ve never upgraded it, probably yes. If you’re adding load, like a heat pump, oven, or EV charger, almost certainly yes.
Is it a legal requirement?
Not in itself. But any new electrical work on your home requires a switchboard that meets current code, so if you’re renovating or adding circuits, you’ll probably end up upgrading anyway.
Will my power be off for the whole day?
It will be off for most of the working day, yes. We do this in one block so you only get one disruption, but let us know if someone in your household is medically dependent on power — we can help with this.
